Course goals
- Produce a complete song from scratch with structure and arrangement.

Requirements
- A computer with Ableton Live Standard or Suite.
- Reference headphones or monitors.
- An audio interface is recommended but not required.

Ableton Live and your first beat
Configure audio and MIDI, understand Session and Arrangement View, use the Browser, set tempo and time signature, and program drums with Drum Rack.
Class project: Create an eight-bar beat with kick, snare and hi-hat, saving at least two versions.
MIDI, melodies and chords
Use quantization and velocity with musical intention, build simple scales and chord progressions, write a bassline and develop a memorable melodic motif.
Class project: Create an eight-bar loop with drums, bass, chords and melody.
Production and arrangement
Turn a loop into a song using sections, automation, layering and transitions that create movement and contrast.
Class project: Expand the loop into an approximately two-minute song.
Complete production
Edit timing and silences, organize the session, balance levels, preserve headroom and export WAV or MP3 files correctly.
Class project: Finish a complete song from scratch and prepare it for mixing.
Mixing foundations
Prepare a professional mix session through gain staging, volume balance, stereo placement, buses and a relevant reference track.
Class project: Organize the session into buses and set the gain staging of every track.
Equalization and compression
Identify problematic frequencies and understand threshold, ratio, attack and release to add clarity, punch and consistency.
Class project: Apply EQ and compression to at least four tracks in your song.
Space and effects
Create depth with reverb sends, tempo-synced delay and effect automation that keeps the mix moving.
Class project: Build reverb and delay buses and send at least three tracks to them.
Mastering for digital platforms
Build a simple chain with corrective EQ, light compression and limiting, while understanding LUFS and True Peak.
Class project: Master the complete song produced during the course.
